The Spring Showcase:

HELD AT HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL

3:30-5:30PM

We hope you are planning to join us on Saturday April 25 for the Spring Showcase!  All students in grades 1 through 8 share an offering with their class/grade level group in the showcase, so we love to have as many students as possible in attendance so that they can participate in sharing what their class has prepared.  As we celebrate and share, we invite you to remember that this event is about simple offerings from each grade that provide glimpses into the learning that occurs at school.

If it is your first time joining us: These offerings are not intended to be “performances,” as you may experience in other spaces. They are not super polished or for high entertainment value.

They are about sharing our learning and growth with you. The event is about building community. It is about celebrating the whole of the school, not just your individual child.

As a reminder, this is a family activity. Students in any grade should not be dropped off to participate in the Showcase without a parent or other person in a guardian role also being in attendance for the duration of the event.

Community Contra Dance: 5:30-7:30PM

This is an activity for families, with live music and a dance caller who will teach everyone the dances as we go.  No prior knowledge or skills are needed, everyone learns the dances together, and they're very simple.  Students cannot attend on their own, and need to be with parents if they attend. The dancing is best suited for people ages 8 and up; if you would like to bring younger children just be aware that they may not be able to easily participate.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move easily in (sneakers are great). The caller will teach each dance to the group, the group will walk through the dance on the caller’s counts, and then live music is added. It's a very fun way to be active together and enjoy some live music at the same time!

Introduction to Biodynamic Gardening:

Led by Lydia Murdock at the Wasatch Charter School Farm

(Questions? email lmurdock@wasatchfamilyfoundation.org)

10AM-12PM

Join us for a spring morning on the farm exploring the foundations of biodynamic gardening. In this introductory class, we’ll look at how biodynamics views the garden as a living organism and how we can cultivate deeper relationship with the soil, plants, and seasonal rhythms.

We’ll explore some of the biodynamic preparations we use, why they matter, and how they support soil vitality and plant health. We’ll also discuss how lunar and cosmic rhythms influence plant growth, and how this guides which days we sow, prune, and harvest.

Whether you’re new to gardening, curious about your child’s gardening specialty, or looking to deepen your practice, this class will offer practical insight, inspiration, and a renewed sense of connection to our shared land, and to your own garden at home.

Notes: Feel free to bring a camp/portable chair to sit on if you'd like.

The Farm is located behind the Lions Club Holladay Recreation Center. Drive to the northeast end of the parking lot and walk up the small hill, there you will find the farm. Enter on the east-facing end of the fence.
