Weekly Notes October 26-30

This Week's Schedule
Reminder: for students who usually do 4 days of school in-person, tomorrow (Wednesday October 28) is their online at-home day, with no school on Thursday or Friday due to parent teacher conferences. For students who usually come to school one day per week, tomorrow (Wednesday October 28) is their day in-person this week, with no school on Thursday or Friday. School will resume on the normal schedule on Monday November 2.

School Pictures: Attention Online Students!
If your student does school online, and you had them come in to get their picture taken on school picture day, your photos are in, and we have arranged a parking lot pickup. You can pick up school pictures at the school on Monday November 2 between 11:00am and 1:00pm. (Students who attend in-person are being given their photos at school today or next Monday.) To pick up your photos, you will pull into the parking lot and park, and come to the table near the main doors, where there will be middle school students who can give you your photos. This is the same pickup time as the 2019-20 yearbook pickup, for those with online students, so if you have both items to pick up, you can do it at the same time. We ask that every family make every effort to pick up photos at this time, to reduce numbers of parents needing to come to the school at other times when the outdoor pickup is not available.

Do you still need a 2019-20 Yearbook?
The 2019-20 yearbooks are finally here, and LifeTouch sent us 40 extra copies to sell. If you did not order one and would still like one, here is what you will need to do:
1. Click the SignUp Genius link below, to sign up to purchase a yearbook. Signing up will reserve a book for you. There are just 40 books available for this last-minute purchase, so this is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you click through to the SignUp and there are no slots available, then the yearbooks are all spoken for. The SignUp Genius is set to expire on Friday October 30, and no signups will be accepted after that day.
2. After you have signed up on the SignUp Genius, you will receive an email with a link to pay online. You will need to make payment by Sunday November 1 at 5:00pm, in order to claim the yearbook you have reserved. Payments will only be accepted online through the provided link; cash and checks cannot be accepted at the school.
3. After you have paid for the yearbook, it is yours! If your student attends school 4 days per week in-person, Deb will get their book to them next week at school. If your student does not attend in-person, you will need to pick up the yearbook at the parking lot pickup on Monday November 2 between 11:00am and 1:00pm at the school. You will pull into the parking lot, park, and come to the table near the main doors, where there will be middle school students who can give you your yearbook.

Click here to reserve a yearbook (each slot is for ONE yearbook; if you need more than one, then you need to sign up for more than one slot):

Kindness Wins
Just a friendly reminder: we've received phone calls from a few parents, expressing concern and sadness about the level of rudeness and anger that they see from some other parents during drop-off and pick-up time. We know that school traffic is a source of frustration in just about any school setting. Nevertheless, a school traffic line, with lots of children watching and learning from the adults, is not the place for road rage! Please leave home early enough that you will have the time you need to get through the drop-off or pick-up line, even with the delays and hiccups that can be expected to happen, without losing your patience.

COVID CASE COUNT
This chart includes students or teachers currently out due to testing positive for Covid-19.  Each week’s total is as of that day, so it may include students or teachers also represented in the count from a previous week.

Please keep in mind the following considerations:
  1. This chart represents ALL confirmed, positive cases of Covid-19 IN SCHOOL.  We are not tracking all individuals who get tested, nor are all tests reported to the school.

  1. Individuals with known exposure to Covid-19 [outside of school, such as in the community or in their own household] who reported that exposure to the school have been required to:
    1. Stay home from school
    2. Get tested, if symptomatic
    3. Quarantine for the appropriate time period as determined by the school nurses and Health Department.  This is assessed by timing and level of exposure, durations of symptoms, and test results.

  1. Any potential exposure to a positive case of Covid will be reported to faculty, staff and parents.  When a positive case is confirmed at school, individuals with high risk exposure (based on proximity, duration and other factors) will be required to quarantine.  This may include whole classes or individual students, teachers, and staff, as appropriate.

  1. To date, we do have a few students staying home because of close proximity to a relative who tested positive for COVID-19 or who tested positive after exposure AT-HOME.  The school nurses are in contact with those families giving instruction on how to proceed. Those students have either been asymptomatic or have tested negative for COVID-19.  With an abundance of caution, we have elected to have those students stay home for 14 days starting from the relative’s positive test date.  For example, if the student’s relative had a positive COVID-19 test result completed on 9/1/2020, they would not be able to return to school until 9/14/2020.  Looking at what exposures and trends we have seen, most of the exposures we are aware of have happened from family member’s spending time with one another or when someone in the home tests positive for COVID-19.

  1. The recommendation from school nurses at this time is to ensure that if you have symptoms of COVID-19, please do not hesitate testing.  Some facilities are offering saliva testing instead of the nasal swab.  To access saliva testing, please contact your primary care physician.  Postponing a test means possibly exposing more people and also delaying your student’s return to school. For example, if you had symptoms on 9/1/2020 but did not get tested until 9/12/2020, your 14 day quarantine will start on 9/12/2020 meaning your return date to school would be on 9/28/2020.
